(2021 statement)
26 years ago my wife woke me and said “Tom, we have to move to Arden.” A year later we were here. Like many newcomers we engaged in everything Arden including completing Mike Curtis’s Georgist courses. I have served on the Assessors Board, the budget, BWVC and civic committees, the Board of the Arden Craft Shop Museum, as well as having been Gildmaster of the Library and Shakespeare Gilds in the Arden Club.
These experiences have allowed me the opportunity to know our village and see both the strengths and needs that we all share.
My specific qualifications as an assessor:
1. Experienced as an Assessor and have also co-written 2 alternative assessments.
2. Supportive of the Community Planning Committee’s recognition of a community-defined goal which preserves the Single Tax land reform principles of Henry George.
3. As a 30+ year Realtor, I am concerned that a community history of significant rent rate change in any single year may create a lack of confidence in the stability of the village.
I also feel that owners of multi-domicile leaseholds are suffering a form of double taxation. Those leaseholds should not have to pay a fee beyond the actual expense another domicile costs the village.
Please call or email me to discuss my view of an equitable assessment.
