I moved to Arden in late October at 1613 Orchard Road, bordering woods.
I am requesting a position on the Forest Committee. I love working in the woods, especially to preserve native plants and to contribute toward their proliferation.
It seems that I have spent my whole life in, near or wishing to be in the woods. I grew up surrounded by woods with no houses in sight. The woods were my playground for constructing forts, making paths, creating primitive tree huts, and escaping from chores and homework. Our vegetable gardens took up most of an acre. All of our 7 acres of trees, grass and shrubs needed to be cared for, thinned, propagated, and preserved. Each of my adult residences were near large wooded areas in which I roamed and loved. The love of the outdoors was shared by the adults in my family who became master gardeners, small scale farmers, and lovers of nature.
I moved to Arden largely for the opportunity to be in the woods again. It seemed like a message when members of the Forest Committee appeared in the woods behind our home one morning to remove invasive. I tagged along and now wish to serve on the committee in any way that will be useful..
I have some tools for woods work, I have sufficient physical stamina for pruning, weeding, cutting, lifting and hauling. I enjoy being with the people currently on the committee. I am an enthusiastic learner.
