INTEREST AND/OR SKILLS:
In 2004, I wrote an article for Arden Page promoting the idea of developing a shared set of community values regarding the development/expansion of improvements on leaseholds. These values would take into consideration the value of the greenspace on each property. Shortly afterwards, I received a visit from Johanna, who I had never met. She praised the article, which became the basis for our friendship. 20 years later, I still contend that Arden needs a set of shared values regarding the preservation and maintenance of its green spaces—most of which can be found on leaseholds. Now many of the trees in Arden, both in the forest and on leaseholds, are aging out and dying. These are large trees, often “shared” by two properties, and some now threaten to damage buildings and power lines. Some need to be trimmed, others removed, which will be very costly to the leaseholder(s). Along with maintaining the Arden woodlands, Johanna’s fund could be used supplement the cost of removing these aging trees. The fund could also be used to address the excessive runoff from Arden streets as it enters the woods, as well as the problematic erosion of the Arden creeks. If elected as a Schroeder Trust Steward, I would propose these measures. That’s what I believe Johanna would want as well.
