WHO I AM:
I have been a member of the Audit committee for around 30 years. In the beginning, we did not actually audit the town books and accounts. We simply read and either approved or disapproved the outside audit. Then, in 2001, Enron happened. A major corporation was committing fraud. In addition to being the largest bankruptcy reorganization in U.S. history at that time, Enron was cited as the biggest audit failure. Suddenly, auditors were on the line.
So, with that going on, Arden thought it would be a good idea if the audit committee did actually audit the books. Well, now. What to do?
I went to our outside auditors and asked them to tutor me so that the audit committee could look over the town’s recording of finances every quarter and still weigh in, with more understanding, on the outside audit.
I’ve always had a great team working with me, and would like to continue to make sure “all is in order.”
