I’ve lived here in Arden on Millers Road (the McNeils’ former home) for close to a year. In that time I’ve logged close to 500 hours in the forest on daily dog walks with my pup Rory. I’ve enjoyed seeing the change of seasons reflected in the trees, flowers and shrubs. During these journeys I’ve enjoyed meeting other folks out hiking or walking their dogs. The forest is such a foundational component of Arden. It provides an ecological buffer zone: cleaning the air, filtering the water, sound proofing us from adjacent traffic and providing a habitat for wildlife.
Shortly after moving here I ran into Bev, Carol and Lisa of the Forest Committee hard at work removing invasive plants. I admired their expertise and dedication to being good stewards of our forest. They recruited me and I’ve been assisting them weekly by cutting invasive species, pulling ivy off of trees, planting new trees and making the paths more walkable. As a committee member I look forward to being an advocate for the Forests. As a retired executive I bring expertise in project management and proposal development which will be useful when making grant applications and managing the implementation of those projects.
