WHO I AM: I am an artist/writer who moved to Arden with my family 6 years ago. I live on a property bordering Sherwood Forest – my point of view when I do all my writing and the subject of my recent paintings. My husband Mark and I are avid hikers and love to travel – especially to Italy. Outside of the Forest Committee my contributions to Arden have included programming for ACRA Summer Program, cooking for Dinner Gild, helping to create Labyrinth of the Ardens, and convening the annual Winter Solstice Ritual.
INTEREST AND/OR SKILLS: I have served on the Forest Committee for 4 years and served as secretary for 2. I am currently doing an internship at the YMCA with their grant writer in the hopes that I can use these skills to write grants to help fund our forestry initiatives. I use my writing skills in other ways – to inform, communicate with the town via Arden Page articles. I also initiated a newsletter to communicate with those neighbors who border our forests, but do not live in the Ardens. In the past, we have communicated with these neighbors when there was a problem (encroachment, dumping). The newsletter establishes a connection and invites our neighbors to enjoy, respect, and partner with us in the care of our forests. My other push has been to invigorate residents of the Ardens to do the same. I have been a liaison with ACRA’s summer program in which our committee led older youth in building bridges for our forest paths. I have also initiated the patch program to encourage participation in forest events like hikes and lectures, and practices such as ivy-pulls and planting native plants.
